I so wish I’d got one of these gems long ago….I swear it could turn old shoe leather into a tasty dish, I’ve cooked just abut every cheap cut of meat you can think of in mine and been overjoyed with the results.I have even used bones from the butcher to make a delicious stew for a few pennies by letting them cook slowly for 3 or 4 hours before adding a variety of veg and legumes to add body.I have pressure cookers which I used to think were the things to go to for making something from nothing and they were, but having to watch they didn’t run dry was a worry, but this little beauty I just fill, plug in, switch on and get on with my day knowing it will do the job, besides being able to see through the lid should it need a topping up it doesnt steam up the kitchen, even in the hot weather it hasn’t caused extra heat.If you like me like Breast of Lamb but find it can be chewy when roasted then popping it in my pot in a gravy sauce makes it melt in the mouth…….mmmmmm…… as does Belly of Pork, besides which its cheap to use, much cheaper than an oven, even on its lowest setting, which has to be good for the pocket too.

I used this all through winter, it’s one of the easiest appliances I could have, and I leave an out on the kitchen top. Lid and pot go in the dishwasher and come out sparkling. During summer, just easy to create some Bolognese that can go on pizzas or even in the freezer for a quick meal. Great size, not too big.

I would not be without this slow cooker now that I’ve found it. It’s perfect for two to three people. Can do a full chicken, soups, stews, all sorts. Comes with several recipes to try. Fast or slow cook speeds (bearing in mind it’s a slow cooker) as well as a keep warm feature. The inner pot comes out to serve and wash up easily. Lud is clear so you can check fluid levels. Exterior is easy to wipe clean. Small and easy to store in a compact kitchen. Love it.

In the dark ages circa 1982 Slow Cookers and Crockpots were the must have kitchen accessory. However the meals cooked in these ancient cookers were disgusting. Fast forward to 2019 and my latest electricity statement shows I was using more electricity because we liked to use our oven for casseroles! I had deliberated and researched the most up to date slow cookers and crockpots. Husband was against another slow cooker. The reviews of the modern crockpots were all positive, but one person’s enjoyment of a cooked meal could be a disaster for another. Boldly I made the decision to purchase a Crockpot as it was marked ‘A energy rated’. If nothing else that should please my energy bill! Taking the advice of the Crockpot company I purchased a 2.4 litre Crockpot (suitable for two people). To date we have cooked Casseroles and Curries, For a successful meal outcome the meat is cut into small pieces and the vegetables are thinly sliced. The Crockpot comes with a recipe leaflet, this gives you guidelines and you can adapt your own ideas. I par boil potatoes, other than that the vegetables go into the pot raw, with the meat on top. It is recommended that you do not fill the pot to the brim as space is allowed for steam within the cavity of the pot whilst cooking. There is no escape of steam during the cooking process although you do get an aroma of what is being cooked. For the 2.4 litre pot about 200 to 300 ml liquid is used. For us there is no difference in the taste of a casserole cooked in the oven compared to the same food cooked in the Crockpot. This Crockpot has three settings, low/high and keep warm. So far all our meals have been cooked on a low setting and then switched to keep warm for the last hour or so. By doing so there does not seem to have been any heat loss as the Crockpot itself is quite thick pottery. As the amount of liquid used only half fills the actual pot, there is no boiling over or burnt outer (the outer shell which contains the heating element). Crockpots have certainly come a long way in the last 35 years. I thoroughly recommend this product.

Having been recently bereaved, I have been forced to “cook” for myself. Takeaways are OK for a while but you soon get fed up of them !!!I work full time – very early start, so having discussed this with my brother and colleagues at work it seemed the ideal solution. Rather than buy a cheap clone / copy, I went and bought the real “Crock-Pot” – what a brilliant investment !A lot of the cheaper cookers have Teflon coated aluminium cooking vessels. The Crock Pot I’m reviewing had a hefty ceramic cooking pot. It holds the heat more evenly and hence cooks everything very evenly, no “hot” or “cold” spots – everything cooks at the same temperature (so little variation – if there is any, you can’t tell !). Everything cooks at the same time and as a BIG bonus, even if you cook your meal on the low setting, you can turn it off a couple of hours before you would need to with an aluminium pot – the thick ceramic pot holds the heat VERY well (hint – put a folded tea towel or a pair of oven gloves on the lid once you turn it off and remove the plug !!) and it stays hot (not just warm), HOT for hours !! This means that you pay a little more for this item but you actually save money as you don’t need the electricity on for as long. The version I have is for 2 people (this is more than ample for 2 – I freeze what’s left – again, saving money – defrost it overnight and then when you are ready, 4 mins in the microwave and you have another gorgeous meal ), but being alone, I can cook chilli con carne, stews, casseroles, even getting adventurous and cooking joints of pork, I can make “pulled pork” dishes while I’m at work. I get home, shred the meat and I have a delicious stir fry in 10 mins !! It’s that easy !!Buy a slow cooker with a thick ceramic cooking pot like this one and you won’t go far wrong.
