This was the third iron I bought, I returned the others as not as good as advertised. However, this is the best iron ever. Not cheap but worth every penny. No messing about with temperature changing for different materials, just fill it, switch it on and go, not only is it light and easy to use, it irons very fast.

I thought long and hard about buying this expensive bit of kit for a one-person household, but the £40 price reduction in March 2016 convinced me to risk it, thank goodness. I read all the reviews, but from the moment it arrived, my misgivings began to disappear. It isn’t over-large, it isn’t over-heavy. I’m an 82 year old woman with a heart condition, but I don’t have problems lifting it, and it fits beautifully on the upper shelf of a sort of half-width unit in my kitchen, (25cm wide, 32 cm high, 50 cm deep). It seems like sense to store it near the source of water, and I wouldn’t keep it high up. To those reviewers who say they don’t think their elderly mother could cope with it, think again – she might love it.I also don’t at present feel the need for a new, expensive ironing board. The steam generator sits comfortably on the counter by the sink. My ironing board, bought because there is nowhere in my house to store a full-length board, folds over at both ends for storage and might also be described as a bit rickety; but it copes perfectly well with the Philips. It gets pretty damp by the end of an ironing session, but I leave it by a radiator for an hour or two before putting it away, and it dries out. I might buy an additional felt cover. But the ironing experience! Like most reviewers, I’m not fond of ironing, and recent health problems had led to me reducing my ironing to a minimum. I started on a basket full of bone-dry domestic items such as table napkins and drying-up cloths. I had no trouble setting up the iron and using it. Creases disappeared at one sweep of the iron, and in no time the basket was empty. Then I went on to a heap of collared cotton jersey tops. Fairly soon I found that doubled cloth sections, such as the collars, really didn’t need to be ironed on both sides – they looked just as good after being pressed on the top side only. The end result was a pile of laundry ironed in half the usual time, and looking very much better than it used to when I was using my old steam iron. To summarise the benefits of this marvellous contraption:1. Time taken halved, because of absence of faff.2. The sheer joy of absence of faff.3. Excellent quality of ironing.By absence of faff, I mean everything that Philips and Amazon reviewers describe about the iron: only having to wait for it to heat up once, for two minutes; not having to refill the tank: not having to sort items at all, or think about temperatures; being able to put the iron down anywhere on the board (or the laundry) without risk of scorching; one sweep of the iron over the surface being enough, no ironing up and down or increasing the pressure by using one’s physical force. I was so pleased that next day I went through my wardrobe and picked out all the remaining badly-ironed items, and re-did them with the new iron – the first time in a long life that I have ever ironed for the fun of it. I must be in love.June 2019.I’m 85 now, but still in love. To call an iron life-changing would be a bit OTT, but this one certainly makes a tiring chore much easier, and I continue to iron with a certain zest. Buy it for your mum or your granny, she’ll love it. Buy it for your wife – she’ll love you.

My 15 year old philips steam generator broke I looked at philips for a replacement I was very skeptical as we get use to the item we have I hate change how wrong I was the improvements in the product since I bought mine 15 years ago is amazing no heat setting to worry about steam output is amazing even transporting the item around is great to due the fact the iron locks in place I was very unsure about a replacement however I’m now gald my old one broke as also the iron itself is so light and comfortable to use compared to it’s predecessor I’m really pleased with my purchase

I bought this to replace my broken one of a different make. Well what can I say, this is much better than the last one I had and what I really like is the fact that you don’t need to change the temperature when ironing different types of clothing. The water capacity is good as is the cord lengths. The only thing is you have to place it back on its stand between ironing rather than resting it on the ironing board. But it’s a breeze on the ironing saving time and it’s so easy to use.

steam so powerful on normal setting steams suits jackets turns its self off when not using it , so light now that’s what i wished for so no strain on my wrists and shoulders, presses them practically flat like pancake ,i feel like its doing ironing on its own , so quick I feel like a professional ironer , would not go back to the other models that’s never last don’t really do a lot , quiet too when first starts up its loud then goes quite, I have sensitive ears its perfect .Dont bother buying any other BUY THIS

I was very sceptical about spending this amount on an iron but I’m so glad I did. It’s the best I have ever used and I get through the ironing so quickly.I read a lot of reviews before making my decision so if you are reading this and unsure, please do it!Yes it’s a little bulky and takes a couple of minutes to heat up but honestly, this machine is incredible. The only thing you I’ll find odd initially if you’ve always had a traditional iron is not being able to stand it up in between ironing. Having said that, I quickly got used to it.The water tank is very big and absolutely love that it knows how to adjust to different fabrics so you don’t have to worry about changing the heat settings.I love it!

I’m loving this iron once it’s set up you can pretty much leave it where it is as all you’ll have to do is fill the water tank. I wasn’t sure how this system worked but I’m really delighted with it it’s so easy and simple to use. No more killing my hand with heavy iron tanks full of water the actual iron is so light weight even I can use it annd more importantly enjoy using it with minimal pain. Well done and I’m so pleased with the irons performance my clothes honestly look like new again. I’ve been raiding all the drawers and re-ironing clothes lol sad I know but the quality of my ironing is so improved I just had to. I have arthritis and nodules on my fingers at joints and trigger finger so anything that helps me cope with that is a winner in my books.

I don’t think I realised how convenient it would be to just be able to put the iron down flat, rather than have to balance it upright!I love that I don’t have to fiddle with the temperature and carefully order what I’m ironing, just grab the next thing and go, and that the steam trigger is an actual trigger, rather than an awkward steam shot on the top like my conventional irons all were. It’s very light, and what it says about the steam going through multiple layers is true (although I still tend to do both sides if what I’m ironing is double layered – just for the best finish)I have had to buy a new ironing board cover – like other reviewers I was getting damp patches occasionally, but it wasn’t dripping from the iron, it was the water collecting and coming up through my ironing board cover (it was actually dripping from underneath too) but since buying a thick cover specifically for steam generators that’s not been an issue.I love it – I iron my son’s shirts once a week for school, and this has dropped the time per shirt from over 3minutes to just over 2 minutes – plus, because it’s light and smooth I’ve started ironing pillowcases and teatowels so they stack better in the drawers. Truly 5 star upgrade based on a normal iron.

Easy to use. Excellent steam iron. Full marks on ironing speed, water capacity, performance e, functionality, ease of cleaning, pricey but worth every penny. Ticks all the boxes

I’d say it knocks about one third off the time it takes to iron stuff now, so well worth the investment. Quite like the fact it’s just one setting as well. And the tank size is decent too.
