Three days ago I decided it was time to vacuum clean the upstairs carpets. Just 3 bedrooms and the landing. I have three different carpet types up there. The front hall, stair, landing and front small bedroom have a very deep pile expensive carpet that is still really good after 35 years of me living here, and it was here before I bought the house. The front master bedroom had a non expensive medium-short pile carpet that is only about two years old, and the back bedroom has an expensive short pile (very short but tightly woven) one which is about six years old.I was still using my old faithful DC04 Dyson that I had from new, so many years ago I cannot even recall where I bought it. The last time I used it, about two months ago it went seriously noisy, this time it blew up as soon as I pressed the power button – smoke everywhere. So, I had a carry my mains run Ball Dyson up the stairs to clean with that instead. I can’t walk very well having had a serious crash when I was 21, I am 61 now so carting that through the living room and up there – and back is hard for me. So I looked on Amazon to buy a new upright cleaner for upstairs and I decided on this one based on reviews. It came yesterday. I carted it upstairs, set it on ‘low pile’ and proceeded to vacuum the two big bedrooms. In the front bedroom with the cheaper carpet, this cleaner was pretty easy to manoeuvre, but it still had good and strong suction. The back bedroom with the expensive low, tight pile was a different matter. It was almost trying to suck itself through the floor. I raised the handle to give myself more leverage and it did help a little. (More on this later). Then I went onto the landing and into the small bedroom which both have that really deep pile carpet. It was still pulling against the carpet like a good ‘un, and I was struggling. I eventually realised that I’d neglected to slide the ‘thingy’ on the cleaning foot/head to ‘deep pile’. Once I did that it was OK and still with great suction very similar to that experienced in the front bedroom (it was here I realised that I should’ve done this for the back bedroom too). The suction is so good on this remarkable cleaner that I doubt it would make hardly any difference in the effectiveness of the cleaning if I had bothered sliding the ‘thingy’ between both deep and low pile settings. But boy oh boy did it clean, or what! There is a reviewer who has stated that it pulls up a “disturbing amount of grit”, not wrong! Look at the picture! Seriously, this is what this VAX pulled out of all my upstairs carpets just two days after I went over the same with a 900w three-year-old ball Dyson, the most powerful corded one I could buy at the time, just before they jacked in mains operated ones for good. Disturbing indeed! As for the cleaner functions. Well the cable is really long, it easily got me to every corner upstairs, in fact it maybe too long as it can get in the way but some careful placement of the coiled up cable into a corner or something before starting can eliminate this to a great extent. And it is quiet as vacuum cleaners go, noticeably a lot quieter than my Dyson. The slider ‘thingy’ for the pile selection is a bad design. It is very hard to slide from one option to the other, I don’t know if this will slacken off with use. I hope so. I am considering a drop of machine oil or WD40 in its runners. It is really the only niggle I have. The operation of this cleaner is simple. There are two orange buttons on the top right of the dust cylinder, one is ‘power’ while the other turns the brush bar on or off. When the brush-bar is turned on a green light illuminates on the back of the cleaning head. I believe the ‘off’ position is for hard floors. It will also remember this setting the next time you use the cleaner. The handle is adjustable to quite a height and should be able to be set for anyone who uses this model. Easily set by simply lifting a corrugated ring above the cylinder and lifting the handle to the desired height before leaving the ring go – which locks it.The cleaning head is very streamlined and flat across its surface, no more than maybe 2 – 2.5″ in height, it can go into very low spaces, specially since the cleaner handle can be laid back practically along the floor and it can still be used. To do this you must place your foot onto the left-hand corner (as looking from behind the cleaner) of the cleaning head to disengage the cylinder section from the ‘lock’ position which you achieve by pulling back on the handle. Much more sturdy I might add than the Dyson Ball, which is so easy that it sometimes does not lock when putting it back up. The VAX cleans right to the edges too, thanks to small openings at the edges of the brush bar housing.Removing the cylinder is simple, again with the press of a button at the back of the carrying handle. Emptying it is also simple. Once removed you will see an orange tab at the bottom of the cylinder (which is hidden when cylinder is fitted to the cleaner). Stick the base of the cylinder in a bin ir a bag and press the top – and the bottom opens, give it a shake and a few pats – done. (I actually put it in its entirety into a bag before doing any of this to catch all the dust).I’ve not used the extension hose on this to do my stairs as yet but the procedure for using it is pretty simple. It is stored on the cleaner on the left side of the cylinder. It comes with a combined crevice and brush tool which stow on the back of the cleaner.I would certainly recommend this vacuum to anyone.

Well i only tried this out yesterday for the first time first impressions are really good. It does tend to have a good suction mode on it which can only be good and straight out of the box you don’t really have to set much up before you switch on and go. The accessory cleaning attachments are a little three in one device but again i tried these yesterday and they preformed well you can connect them up to the handle for a longer reach on those high places. Everything looks so neat and compact with it the main handle simply slides out when not in use giving you easy storage space for your new vacuum which can be a bonus. Weak spots well there is one of sorts the cable is really long now this can be a good thing or a bad thing for you depending on your space. You can get round it by simply just threading out the cable you think will be ample for your needs but it does all tend to slip off. It’s a little gripe but don’t let it put you off purchasing this model. Overall first impressions are positive the cable thing isn’t really a problem of sorts it’s just what you make of it. With very little maintenance required to keep your vacuum in tip top condition this comes highly recommended.

After i found out you have a button to press to get the brushes to rotate,i was very impressed .Great suction and gets pet hairs up so easily.well worth the money.

I was using an old bagged pull-along vacuum which was well past it’s prime. As I’m hoping to move home soon, I wanted a good vacuum to really get the muck out of the carpets & so far this hasn’t disappointed. It’s got great muck pulling power plus it’s easy to empty & then clean under the tap (the filter section comes apart easily to allow for cleaning). The only negative is that the extension tube isn’t very long & it gets blocked easily (I was doing some DIY & bits of wood kept getting stuck when I was cleaning up afterwards – I guess because the tube is ribbed). The power chord on the other hand is ridiculously long – Ideal if you don’t want to have to keep changing power sockets when going around different rooms.

Okay, so this vacuum was initially just “meh” for me because my dumb self didn’t fully explore its features for months – but if you slide the little thing on the vacuum head (idk what it’s called, you get what i mean) to the other side, it essentially SUCKS EVERYTHING. No, I mean everything. I have a black dog and beige carpets – I know, worst combo ever, they were installed when I bought the flat. I moved in in April and by July, the carpets were full of pet hair. For three months, I was oblivious to that little sliding thingy (let’s be real, as long as it vacuums, who even checks for the extra features) but today, I had an epiphany and tried it. ET VOILA, it truly did get rid off all the pet hair and the carpet’s nice and beige again!!! Vax I’ll never doubt you for as long as I live <3

I’ve just purchased this as I have a cat who’s fur is a pain I hoovered this morning with my old hoover so when I received my vax I just tryed it out and the fur i collected is ridiculous. This hoover is amazing highly recommended its perfect.

  7. N JohnsonN Johnson

Thought my downstairs carpets were clean until I used this, never go back to a cordless again. It hoovered all the dog hair up, Just be careful it’s eats rugs lol, would recommend this hoover to anyone with pets.

  8. Amazon Customer

I had one of these for about 13 yrs so know pretty decent. This has really good suction I’ve a cat so good for fluff removal only downside is it’s a bit rigid, but I can live with that. Old one wouldn’t stand up last off but still worked.

  9. Dave Addicott

This has just arrived and so far I’m highly impressed with this vacuum, especially as it was such good value for money. The suction is fantastic and after a couple of uses there is a definite improvement on the pile of the carpets I’m using it on. Would highly recommend.
