10 reviews for Vax Air Stretch Upright Vacuum Cleaner | Over 17m Reach | Powerful, Multi-cyclonic, with No Loss of Suction | Lightweight – U85-AS-Be, Silver and Orange, 820W

We are very happy with this hoover. It is lightweight. so easy to push. Adjustable setting for type of floor you cleaning. The colour is really nice. The cord is so long you can do most of house from the plug.It is far quieter than any hoover i have used before. Normally our cat does a runner when we hoover, but she has stayed in the room sat on chair not really bothered by it. We definitely recommend this.

  2. Cassie

The suction is really strong on the vacuum and it lifts the pile on my carpets (approximately 6 years old). The only thing I would want as an improvement is if there was a holder for each attachment on the Vax and a retractable cord holder. Other than that, I really cannot complain. We have two indoor cats, and the vacuum picks up all of their hairs. The extension for the hose enables me to hoover up dust bunnies on the ceiling. On hard floors it pick up everything

Could not have bought anything better! I’ve used a Dyson and a Bosch and both have not had the strong suction. The VAX cleans so quickly and it’s very lightweight. Easy to clean and store away in a corner. It may look bulky but I’d rather have a vacuum that does the job, than just looks good tucked away!

I,m not one for writing reviews but the Vax air stretch hoover deserves this one…opening the box it was assembled in seconds, eager to try it out why not eh… jeeso the cable length i swear could reach the neighbours…. switched it on… quiet or what it was in stealth mode, the quietest hoover i’ve almost not heard… So hoovering during Corrie not a problem…Suction , it almost drew the colour pigment out of the carpet… so dirt and dust stand no chance from this machine. other attachments clip on to the retractable handle for stairs and high levels that need blasted…er i mean hoovered.Vax , i’m impressed a value for money Hoover that does exactly what it says on the box…!!thank you.

Be prepared to spend the new few days exclaiming to your other half “look how much dirt was in x room”. Fairly regularly vacuumed with a combination of a Dyson and a Henry and couple of times a year use a vac carpet cleaner but still with two dogs and a log burning stove it’s been an adventure of dog hair and dirt. The tip filter is washable which is good and the whole of the cyclone comes apart for easy cleaning (the shower works well for this task I find)

The media could not be loaded.  Are you searching for a vacuum cleaner that costs up to £100 and has exceptional suction capabilities? Vax Air Stretch Upright Vacuum Cleaner can be the answer.I was looking for an affordable bagless vacuum cleaner that works wonders for thick carpets and I must admit my expectations were surpassed! I am thoroughly pleased with my purchase.PROsgreat suctionvery powerfulbrilliant for thick carpetsaffordable priceretro designno replacement bagextremely long cableeasy to emptyvacuum cleaner under £100CONsit is a bit too heavy for meI certainly recommend this vacuum to anyone. It’s probably the best budget hoover. Money well spent!

All good, great suction. Only real downsize is, if something more than dust/hair gets sucked inro the waste chamber its a nightmare to remove. I found a piece of wire with a hook handy!

Three days ago I decided it was time to vacuum clean the upstairs carpets. Just 3 bedrooms and the landing. I have three different carpet types up there. The front hall, stair, landing and front small bedroom have a very deep pile expensive carpet that is still really good after 35 years of me living here, and it was here before I bought the house. The front master bedroom had a non expensive medium-short pile carpet that is only about two years old, and the back bedroom has an expensive short pile (very short but tightly woven) one which is about six years old.I was still using my old faithful DC04 Dyson that I had from new, so many years ago I cannot even recall where I bought it. The last time I used it, about two months ago it went seriously noisy, this time it blew up as soon as I pressed the power button – smoke everywhere. So, I had a carry my mains run Ball Dyson up the stairs to clean with that instead. I can’t walk very well having had a serious crash when I was 21, I am 61 now so carting that through the living room and up there – and back is hard for me. So I looked on Amazon to buy a new upright cleaner for upstairs and I decided on this one based on reviews. It came yesterday. I carted it upstairs, set it on ‘low pile’ and proceeded to vacuum the two big bedrooms. In the front bedroom with the cheaper carpet, this cleaner was pretty easy to manoeuvre, but it still had good and strong suction. The back bedroom with the expensive low, tight pile was a different matter. It was almost trying to suck itself through the floor. I raised the handle to give myself more leverage and it did help a little. (More on this later). Then I went onto the landing and into the small bedroom which both have that really deep pile carpet. It was still pulling against the carpet like a good ‘un, and I was struggling. I eventually realised that I’d neglected to slide the ‘thingy’ on the cleaning foot/head to ‘deep pile’. Once I did that it was OK and still with great suction very similar to that experienced in the front bedroom (it was here I realised that I should’ve done this for the back bedroom too). The suction is so good on this remarkable cleaner that I doubt it would make hardly any difference in the effectiveness of the cleaning if I had bothered sliding the ‘thingy’ between both deep and low pile settings. But boy oh boy did it clean, or what! There is a reviewer who has stated that it pulls up a “disturbing amount of grit”, not wrong! Look at the picture! Seriously, this is what this VAX pulled out of all my upstairs carpets just two days after I went over the same with a 900w three-year-old ball Dyson, the most powerful corded one I could buy at the time, just before they jacked in mains operated ones for good. Disturbing indeed! As for the cleaner functions. Well the cable is really long, it easily got me to every corner upstairs, in fact it maybe too long as it can get in the way but some careful placement of the coiled up cable into a corner or something before starting can eliminate this to a great extent. And it is quiet as vacuum cleaners go, noticeably a lot quieter than my Dyson. The slider ‘thingy’ for the pile selection is a bad design. It is very hard to slide from one option to the other, I don’t know if this will slacken off with use. I hope so. I am considering a drop of machine oil or WD40 in its runners. It is really the only niggle I have. The operation of this cleaner is simple. There are two orange buttons on the top right of the dust cylinder, one is ‘power’ while the other turns the brush bar on or off. When the brush-bar is turned on a green light illuminates on the back of the cleaning head. I believe the ‘off’ position is for hard floors. It will also remember this setting the next time you use the cleaner. The handle is adjustable to quite a height and should be able to be set for anyone who uses this model. Easily set by simply lifting a corrugated ring above the cylinder and lifting the handle to the desired height before leaving the ring go – which locks it.The cleaning head is very streamlined and flat across its surface, no more than maybe 2 – 2.5″ in height, it can go into very low spaces, specially since the cleaner handle can be laid back practically along the floor and it can still be used. To do this you must place your foot onto the left-hand corner (as looking from behind the cleaner) of the cleaning head to disengage the cylinder section from the ‘lock’ position which you achieve by pulling back on the handle. Much more sturdy I might add than the Dyson Ball, which is so easy that it sometimes does not lock when putting it back up. The VAX cleans right to the edges too, thanks to small openings at the edges of the brush bar housing.Removing the cylinder is simple, again with the press of a button at the back of the carrying handle. Emptying it is also simple. Once removed you will see an orange tab at the bottom of the cylinder (which is hidden when cylinder is fitted to the cleaner). Stick the base of the cylinder in a bin ir a bag and press the top – and the bottom opens, give it a shake and a few pats – done. (I actually put it in its entirety into a bag before doing any of this to catch all the dust).I’ve not used the extension hose on this to do my stairs as yet but the procedure for using it is pretty simple. It is stored on the cleaner on the left side of the cylinder. It comes with a combined crevice and brush tool which stow on the back of the cleaner.I would certainly recommend this vacuum to anyone.

Previous reviews said this vacuum cleaner was powerful, but it was still surprising to find out how much this machine could suck out of our carpets.

  10. Annie

Really please with the hoover, it has great suction and light enough to use it on the stairs. Would definitely recommend this hoover.
